Grand Strand Arts promotes the arts and those creating art in the Myrtle Beach area.
1.) To continually develop an environment that fosters an appreciation for the arts in the Grand Strand community.
2.) To generate opportunities to help promote local artists in the Grand Strand community.
With a primary focus on these goals, the Grand Strand Artist of the Month series launched in 2012. A local Horry County or Georgetown County visual artist was featured each month as the Grand Strand Artist of the Month. These solo exhibitions began with an opening reception, which was held on the first Saturday of every month from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. After the opening reception, each artist’s work remained on display at Fresh Brewed Coffee House for the month.
The 2012 Grand Strand Artists of the Month participated in a Group Art Exhibition at Cowork MYR. The exhibition began with an opening reception on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
The 2012 Grand Strand Artist of the Month series ended with the grand finale, the 2012 Grand Strand Artist of the Year event. This was a two-part event that took place on Saturday, January 19, 2013. It began with the Grand Strand Arts Crawl from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach and was immediately followed by the 2012 Grand Strand Artist of the Year Awards Dinner, hosted by the Myrtle Beach Economic Development Corporation‘s Candace Howell and WBTW-TV‘s Rusty Ray at Crossroads at House of Blues Myrtle Beach.
In 2013, there were several new additions to the Grand Strand Artist of the Month series, including a category for performing artists. The series featured one visual artist and one performing artist each month for a total of 24 Grand Strand Artists of the Month. Additionally, the Grand Strand Artists of the Month had the opportunity to participate in 2013 Seasonal Showcases.
Grand Strand Arts partnered with Spring Wine Tasting for the Grand Strand Arts Spring 2013 Showcase. The event took place on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Croissants Bistro & Bakery. Attendees enjoyed a wine tasting and appetizers, live art as well as live music contributed by the Grand Strand Artists of the Month, and participated in a silent auction of the live artwork to benefit the Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Additionally, the Grand Strand Artists of the Month exhibited artwork during the event.
For the past two years, Grand Strand Arts partnered with Autumn Art & Wine Festival at House of Blues Myrtle Beach. Attendees enjoyed artwork, live music, and a wine tasting. The Grand Strand Artists of the Month exhibited artwork and performed live music for the festival.
Now in its fourth year, Grand Strand Arts continues to promote the arts and those creating art in the Myrtle Beach area by featuring a local Horry County or Georgetown County visual, performing, culinary, or literary artist each month as a 2015 Grand Strand Artist of the Month.
