February 2012 Grand Strand Artist of the Month: Blair Browning

 

 

The February 2012 Grand Strand Artist of the Month is Blair Browning. Join us for her opening reception on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fresh Brewed Coffee House, which is located at 933 Broadway Street in the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach.

Originally from Smithfield, North Carolina, Blair Browning has resided in Myrtle Beach for 13 years, where she is a prominent figure in the local arts scene. She has served on a number of art-related boards including the Roundtable Art Group – a collaboration of young artists who hold high-profile gallery events and galas to benefit local charities. Additionally, her work and was highlighted on an episode of “Southern Styles” in December 2007 and she has been a featured gallery artist at the House of Blues.

After graduating from the Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology high school in Myrtle Beach, Blair continued to study art at the Savannah College of Art and Design before graduating with a BA in Studio Art from Coastal Carolina University. For the last 9 years, Blair has specialized in mosaic work that exhibits a mélange of varied subject matter, from postmodern satire to children’s décor.

Blair also explores similar themes in her painting projects, beginning new work in 2008 and developing her own brand of contemporary genres, including neo-pop art. A happy technician of clever humor, Blair hopes her work will reignite and perpetuate laughter and surprise. Her colorful work, ranging from mosaics, furniture, paintings, sculptures, mosaic belt buckles & jewelry has become known as b.b. Designs.
